"We wrestled hard tonight and the guys that won looked good," Head Coach Jim Andrassy said. "We just need to keep improving."
Freshman Jake Ferri quieted the Convocation Center crowd with his first career MAC dual victory, a 7-4 decision over Trevor Giallombardo.
The Flashes extended their team lead to 9-4 when senior Chance Driscoll edged Nick Vestal 5-3. For the second straight dual, Driscoll wrestled up a weight class at 149, filling in for an injured Nick Monico.
"Jake and Chance came through for us tonight," Andrassy said. "We weren't sure how either of the matches were going to go and if either of them lose, we lose the dual."
Kent State's biggest lead (18-4) came when redshirt freshman Dylan Barreiro claimed a 5-3 win over Arsen Arshughyan.
Sophomore Tim Rooney (141) and juniors Casey Sparkman (157) and Isaac Bast all contributed to the Flashes' run of five straight wins that concluded with Barreiro.
Each of the final three matches were tied late in the third period, but the Bobcats came away with points in all of them.
"We could have walked out of there with three more wins," Andrassy said.
Following a late night bus ride back to Kent State, the Flashes will head to the airport Saturday for a Sunday afternoon dual against No. 5 Oklahoma State.
