Lock Haven rolls to 40-6 victory over George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. -- The No. 23/18 Lock Haven University wrestling team returned to Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) action in a big way today as the Bald Eagles won nine of 10 bouts and rolled to a dominating 40-6 win over host George Mason (3-7, 0-3 EWL)

The Bald Eagles (8-1, 2-0 EWL) won the first nine bouts and raced out to a 40-0 lead before forfeiting at 285 pounds. With the win, Lock Haven improved to 11-0 all-time vs. the Patriots.

For Lock Haven, bonus points were certainly part of the story as LHU racked up four tech falls, two majors and a pin.

At 8-1, the Bald Eagles are off to their best start in 16 years. Lock Haven was 8-1 during the 2001-02 season and raced out to a 11-1 start before finishing that season at 17-4 overall.

Luke Werner (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) got things rolling quickly for Lock Haven today. He cruised to a 16-0 tech-fall win in upset-fashion as he knocked off No. 31 Ibrahim Bunduka.

DJ Fehlman (Warren, Pa./Warren) and No. 24 Kyle Shoop (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) followed Werner's tech fall with back-to-back tech falls of their own at 133 and 141, respectively.

No. 16 Ronnie Perry (Christiana, Pa./Solanco) posted a hard-fought 5-1 win at 149 over perennial contender Tejon Anthony.

Alex Klucker (Summerdale, Pa./East Pennsboro) added a tech at 157, No. 8 Chance Marsteller (New Park, Pa./Kennard-Dale (Oklahoma State) recorded a pin at 165 and Jared Siegrist (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) tallied a major at 174.

Corey Hazel (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley), ranked No. 31, continued his run with another big win at 184 and Trey Hartsock (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) capped Lock Haven's winning ways with a major decision after he got the call up to 197 for today's match.

LHU will waste little time in getting back to action. Tomorrow (Sunday, Jan. 21) at home, Lock Haven will hit the mats vs. Brown at 1 p.m. The non-conference dual marks the first meeting between the two schools since 1998. The Bald Eagles are 4-2 all-time vs. the Bears.
