    Hofstra tops Sacred Heart for second consecutive win

    Fairfield, CT -- Freshman Holden Heller recorded a tech fall victory to lead eight Pride wrestlers to victory as Hofstra defeated the Pioneers of Sacred Heart, 26-11 in an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) match at the Pitt Athletic Complex Saturday night.

    The Pride, who posted their second consecutive EIWA victory, improved to 6-10 overall and 2-4 in conference matches. Sacred Heart slipped to 5-6 on the season and 1-4 in the EIWA.

    Starting the match at 157-pounds, senior Ryan Burkert led the Pride off to the first of back-to-back wins to take a 6-0 lead after sophomore Ricky Stamm topped Brandon Levesque, 10-7 at 165. After Hofstra forfeited at 174 pounds, the Pride rang up five consecutive victories including the first four by three points or less, to take an 21-6 lead after Jacob Martin's 13-6 victory over Anthony Petrillo at 133.

    Sacred Heart's Gerard Daly recorded a 22-6 technical fall win over Garrett Lambert at 141 to close the deficit to 21-11, Heller closed out the contest with a 22-3 tech fall victory at 149 for the 26-11 final. It was Heller's second tech fall win of the season.

    Hofstra returns to action on Sunday (Feb. 10) when the Pride travel to Vestal, New York for another EIWA match against the Bearcats of Binghamton at West Gymnasium. Match time is 3:30 p.m.

    Notes
    - Hofstra freshman Dylan Ryder recorded his 11th consecutive victory and the 22nd of his season. He is ranked 28th in the NCAA Division I Coaches Panel rankings.
    - Freshman Holden Heller has won seven of the last eight matches to improve to 12-7 on the season
    - Sophomore Ricky Stamm improved to 14-12 on the season with his victory
    - Saturday's match was the mid-point of the Pride's six-match road swing that wraps up next Saturday at Brown and at Harvard.
