    Heidelberg dominates Muskingum

TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University wrestling team put together a solid performance on Tuesday, dominating their way to a 45-4 victory over Muskingum in Seiberling Gymnasium. The Student Princes did not allow a point other than escapes until the evening's final bout, as three-consecutive pins highlighted the match for the Student Princes.

With the win, Heidelberg improved to 6-9 (2-1 OAC) in dual matches on the season while Muskingum fell to 1-7 (0-3 OAC).

Tyler Price started off the match at 125 for the Student Princes, taking on Jordan Burkholder of the Muskies. Less than 30 seconds into the bout, Price was able to land a single-leg shot to record a takedown for the early lead. After working on top for a little bit, he was able to record two back points to extend his lead. Price nearly rode out the remainder of the period, but instead settled for a 4-1 lead with just over two minutes of riding time headed to the second period. With a neutral start to the second period, the two wrestled to no score for about a minute until Price picked up another take down and was able to ride out the rest of the period with a 6-1 edge. Price started the third period on the bottom, and although he was never able to work his way up, he still earned a point for riding time for a 7-1 victory.

At 133, Ryan Hornack was unable to get anything going in the first period until under five seconds remained when he recorded a takedown and two back points for a 4-0 lead. Starting on the bottom in the second period, Hornack, worked for a quick reversal before allowing an escape to make his lead 6-1. That score held until the third period when Hornack allowed an escape to start the period after starting on top. A takedown with just over a minute remaining put him back in command 8-2. Hornack gave up one more escape before time ran out and he won the bout by an 8-3 decision. Heidelberg had one team point removed following the bout for misconduct.

In the 141-pound bout, Justin Kihn was in total control early, as he picked up an impressive takedown before giving up a quick escape. Following another takedown by Kihn, he earned four points for a near fall to take an 8-2 lead to the second period. A neutral start to the second period saw mostly scoreless wrestling until Kihn earned a takedown and two back points for a 12-2 lead headed to the third period. Kihn started on the bottom for the third, but was handed the escape and then turned that into another takedown and earned two points due to stalling to win the bout by a tech fall, 17-2, in 6:45.

Damon Cheek took the forfeit victory for the Berg at 149.

At 157, Mark Carosella started things off with a takedown just over 30 seconds into the bout for the quick lead. He turned that into four near fall points as well to extend his lead, and then earned four more near fall points for the commanding lead. After an attempt to stand up by the Muskie wrestler, Carosella returned him to the mat and once again picked up four near fall points for a 14-0 lead after the first period. With a neutral start to the second period, Carosella earned a take down quickly for the tech fall in 3:13 by a score of 16-0.

Aaron Banko capitalized on a single leg shot early in the first period of the 165 pound bout and worked his way on top all the way to a pin in 2:26.

At 174, Darren Decker kept the momentum going for Heidelberg with a quick take down and gave up the escape quickly before earning one more take down, and then easily working his way for a pin in 39 seconds.

Dillen Decker took to the mat at 184 for the Berg and had a take down and four points for a near fall less than 20 seconds into the bout for a 6-0 lead. After four more points for another near fall, Decker finished off his pin in 1:12 for the third-straight pin for the Student Princes.

Gage Finegan earned the win by forfeit at 197 for the Berg.

In the evening's final bout, Napoleon Bell wrestled at 285 for HU. He fell victim to a takedown late in the first period, but earned an escape to make it 2-1. His opponent earned one more take down before the end of the period to make it a 4-1 deficit for Bell entering the second period. Starting the second period on the bottom, Bell worked his way up for an escape about 30 seconds into the period to make the score 4-2. He gave up another take down shortly thereafter and gave up a point to stalling before the end of the period to trail 7-2 going into the final period. With a neutral start to the third period, Bell was unable to get anything going as he ended up falling by a 12-3 major decision.
