Legendary wrestler and coach Dan Gable will be signing autographs at the 2017 USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals on Saturday, April 1.
The signing session, sponsored by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum, will take place from 1:30-3 p.m. Saturday at the UNI-Dome on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
"USA Wrestling always puts on great events, and I'm proud to be a part of this one. I always enjoy coming back to Cedar Falls," said museum namesake Dan Gable, who grew up in nearby Waterloo.
Dan Mack Gable is one of the all-time great wrestlers and coaches. He crafted a near-perfect record in folkstyle wrestling, first at Waterloo West High School, then at Iowa State. In freestyle, Gable won a gold medal at the 1972 Munich Olympics without surrendering a single point. As the head coach at the University of Iowa, Gable lead his Hawkeyes to 15 NCAA team titles in 21 years, compiling a 355-21-5 dual-meet record.
The UNI-Dome was the site of the 1997 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, where Gable not only led his Hawkeyes to that 15th title but made history by setting the record for the most team points scored, with 170.
