Anthony Echemendia, a Junior National double champion in Fargo last week, took to Twitter to chronicle his journey from Cuba to the United States.
I knew that I could not say anything to my parents because they are overprotective of me and they would not agree with my decision. My parents preferred my presence at their side, they did not care about the conditions that Cuba has, they just wanted their son by their side pic.twitter.com/XHnsmajcTS

When I was on the way, I found two fanatical boys in the sport who knew me and they decided to help me to reach the border of Belize with Guatemala. Travel for hours and arrive in Peten a state of Guatemala that borders Belize. I had been there about five days waiting to continue pic.twitter.com/ZaqRTWAVxW

When I can communicate with my parents they quickly contacted some relatives that I have in the United States and they helped me with money to cross the borders. When I got the money, I crossed into Belize and stayed 5 days in a little house in the mountains. pic.twitter.com/Z3hrCvKYCp

I was waiting for a day because there was a line to cross the river and I had to pay a man who was going to take me on his small boat to Quintana Roo State of Mexico. That was a difficult day I was not eating anything until finally I arrived in Mexico. pic.twitter.com/OweYBRkeQV
