    Elizabethtown wins 26-12 over John Hopkins

    ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Elizabethtown College won its home opener and first dual match of the 2006-07 season 26-12 over Johns Hopkins University Tuesday night. It is the first time Elizabethtown, which used a lineup of one junior and nine first-year students, has begun a season 1-0 in dual matches since 1999-00. Johns Hopkins dropped to 0-1 in dual matches with the loss.

    Junior 125-pounder Peter Achilles (Geneva, NY/Geneva) began the match with a victory on a pin for Elizabethtown in 6:28. At 133 pounds, Eric Rhoads (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) followed with a pin in 2:04 to give Elizabethtown a 12-0 lead. Johns Hopkins won a 9-2 decision at 141 pounds to cut the gap to 12-3.

    Elizabethtown's Bud Croswell (Newark, DE/Sanford) won a technical fall in 2:31 at 149 pounds to boost the lead to 17-3. Hopkins followed with a 10-3 win at 157 pounds, and Keith Staulters (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) won a 5-4 decision at 165 pounds for Elizabethtown to make the score 20-6.

    Hopkins began to mount a comeback, winning a 2-1 decision at 174 pounds and a 4-2 decision at 184 pounds to cut Elizabethtown's lead down to 20-12. Elizabethtown clinched the match victory when Deron Sharp (Millville, NJ/Millville) won an 8-4 decision at 197 pounds to put the host Blue Jays up 23-12. At heavyweight, Tim Katzaman (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing Area) won 7-2 for Elizabethtown to complete the team scoring.

    Elizabethtown will return to action at the Ursinus College Fall Brawl Saturday, November 18 at 9:30 a.m.
