Binghamton topples Bloomsburg for 11th win

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton wrestling (11-5) spotted Bloomsburg a 6-0 cushion before rattling off six straight match wins en route to a 21-12 victory over the Huskies (5-9) in the team's home finale Sunday afternoon at West Gym.

The Bearcats rode bonus point victories by their two nationally-ranked wrestlers to post the team's third straight dual win.

Senior 184-pound Steve Schneider, ranked No. 9 in the nation, picked up his 11th consecutive win and needed just one period to do it. Schneider loaded up on back points before registering a 19-3 technical fall as the first period horn sounded.

Two matches earlier, redshirt junior No. 28 Vincent DePrez posted a 13-6 major decision to raise his season mark to 22-8. He led 5-0 entering the third period before putting the match away with back points.

"The guys are scrapping really hard right now," head coach Kyle Borshoff said. "We are wrestling hard every time we step on the mat. That's what will count at the EIWA Championships and NCAA tournament. It's really all about who wants it more and our guys are doing that right now. The middle weights have been the heart of this team all season and they came through again today. We've been able to count on those guys from 141 to 184 almost without fail and they are anchoring the team."

Binghamton concludes its dual season Thursday night at Buffalo.
