    Edinboro crushes Cleveland State

    EDINBORO, Pa. -- The 15th-ranked Edinboro wrestling team recorded a convincing Eastern Wrestling League win over visiting Cleveland State, 37-3, on Saturday night at McComb Fieldhouse, winning nine of 10 matches.

    The victory improved Edinboro to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the EWL. Cleveland State fell to 3-5, 0-2.

    Cleveland State briefly took the victory in the 125-lb. match as Ben Willeford scored a 5-2 decision over Edinboro's Kory Mines. Mines fell behind 5-1 after the second period and could not overcome the deficit. Willeford improved to 18-12 on the season and Mines is now 13-14.

    Edinboro began its winning ways at 133 with third-ranked A.J. Schopp. Schopp scored a quick takedown in his match with Mike Carlone (14-10) before finishing off his opponent by fall at 2:55. Schopp improved to 24-2 and has registered 15 falls.

    Mitchell Port, ranked fifth at 141 lbs., took an 8-5 edge after two periods over his opponent Nick Flannery (7-10) and was able to hold on for the 8-6 decision and stretch the Edinboro lead. The win moves Port to an impressive 24-3 on the season.

    At 149, David Habat was able to score a tech fall victory over Mike Mencini (2-8) at 4:10. The win moved Habat to 21-7 on the year.

    Michael DePalma earned a major decision win, 9-1, over Cleveland State's Matt Donohoe (14-12) at 157 lbs. DePalma , who improved to 20-10, took a 4-1 lead after one period and extended it to a 6-1 lead after two.

    In the 165-pound match, Johnny Greisheimer racked up his 15th win of the year by fall over Corey Carlo (11-14). Greisheimer won with a pin at 2:22 and Edinboro pulled ahead by a 24-3 margin.

    Patrick Jennings kept the winning ways going for the Boro, winning by decision over Xavier Dye, 10-5. Jennings and Dye (9-10) fought through a long first period with Jennings leading after one, 5-3. He went ahead 7-4 early in the second and with another take down went ahead, 9-5 before finally winning by the 10-5 score.

    Vince Pickett was next in line to score a victory for the Boro, doing so by major decision at 184 lbs over Corbin Boone, 16-5. With the win, Pickett advances to 19-11 on the year. Pickeet grabbed a 6-2 lead after the first period and extended it to 10-4 after two before finishing off the victory.

    At 197, Warren Bosch was victorious by decision, 5-4, following a take down of Nick Anthony (5-8). Bosch now has a record of 12-13. Bosch, trailing 4-2 after two periods, scored a takedown with 15 seconds left to take the advantage and win the match.

    In the match up at heavyweight, Ernest James and Riley Shaw fought to over time before deciding things. In the end, it was James, ranked 20th coming into the night, who prevailed with a take down to win by decision, 7-5 and wrap up the night for Edinboro with a 37-3 win. James trailed, 2-1, after one period, but grabbed the 4-3 advantage after two periods before being forced to overtime.

    Edinboro is next in action at the Edinboro Open on Feb. 9.
