Freshman Jacob Goodwin started out the day for the Dragons by recording the first collegiate pin in the history of Madison Square Garden in the 125 bout at 1:04 against Mason's Rich Lavorato. The early pin put Drexel up 6-0 over the Patriots.
Mason tied the meet up with a win-by-fall in the 133 match, but Drexel came back with a 6-1 decision by Frank Cimato in the 141 match to put the Dragons up 9-6. Mason rallied with wins in the 149 and 157 bouts to take a 13-9 lead, but then a 9-8 win at 165 from Connor Moran brought Drexel within one point to put the score at 13-12. Kevin Matyas then added a 5-0 decision at 174 that gave the Dragons a 15-13 lead over the Patriots. Drexel would not trail again for the remainder of the dual.
Bryan Sternlieb also recorded a win-by-fall against Mason's Corey Smith at 4:56 in his match at 184 and Brandon Palik added a 4-3 decision at 197 to secure a Drexel victory.
