    Drexel dominates Hofstra

PHILADELPHIA -- The Drexel wrestling team closed out its second win of the day Saturday night, downing the Hofstra Pride at the Daskalakis Athletic Center, 36-2.

Drexel began the day in Lancaster, Pa. where it cruised past the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats, 40-6. Back on their home mat at night, it was more of the same dominance for the Dragons. Drexel has now won four matches in a row, improving to 11-5 overall and 7-3 in the EIWA with the win. Hofstra falls to 6-8 overall and 2-5 in the EIWA.

After starting the night with six points on the board after a Hofstra forfeit at 141 pounds, the Dragons jumped on the Pride early to grow the lead to an insurmountable 25-0. No. 17 Matthew Cimato worked a 4-1 decision over Ryan Burkert at 149 pounds, before 157-pounder Willie Davis tied things up with riding time to send his match against Jake Kaminsky into extra time where he would get a quick takedown for the 17-15 sudden victory. Austin Rose followed up the back-to-back decisions with a win by fall, his second of the day, just 1:56 into his match against Bobby Fehr.

The Dragons kept the momentum going at 174 pounds where redshirt freshman Ebed Jarrell came away with an 8-7 decision over Sage Heller after riding time was added, then Alex DeCiantis used a late takedown right before the third period buzzer to earn the 14-5 major decision at 184 pounds over Michael Oxley to put the match out of reach for the Pride. At 197 pounds, former Dragon Nezar Haddad took a 2-1 decision over his former practice partner Joshua Murphy in a tiebreaker.

At heavyweight, No. 15 ranked Joey Goodhart outlasted Omar Haddad, 4-1, to send it back to the lightweights with the match in hand. After the 285-pound match, one point was deducted from both teams for technical fouls. Zack Fuentes brought the match to Jacob Martin from the opening whistle of the 125-pound match and worked his way to a second period win by fall at the 4:39 mark of the match. No. 13 ranked Kevin Devoy Jr. closed out the match with a 7-1 decision over Vinny Vespa to give the Dragons the 36-2 victory.

The Dragons will return to the mat next Saturday, Feb. 11 when they head to Lawrenceville, N.J. to take on the Rider Broncs at 8 p.m.
