    Nebraska Omaha tops Minnesota State

    OMAHA, Neb. -- For the second time this season, the University of Nebraska at Omaha wrestling team dominated the Mavericks of Minnesota State, winning eight of ten matches to roll to a 31-6 win over the seventh-ranked Mavericks Friday night at Sapp Fieldhouse.

    UNO is now 9-1 on the year and has won four straight duals since falling to Augsburg on Jan. 22. MSU dips to 7-4 in dual contests on the year. UNO defeated MSU on Jan. 10 in the semis of the 2010 NWCA National Duals, 30-6.

    Minnesota State got out to an early lead with fourth-ranked Andy Forstner defeating second-ranked Terrell McKinney 10-7 in a hard fought match at 125.

    Cody Garcia tied Pat Kelley III's all-time single-season record of 25 falls when he pinned Matt Nyvold at 2:51. Kelley III set the mark during the 1995-96 season. Garcia, who is UNO's all-time falls leader, now has 78 in his career. The Hutchinson, Kan., native is 38-0 with a 10-0 dual record.

    At 141, Mario Morgan picked up his 30th win of the season and his 19th-straight victory with a 10-4 decision over Robby Fisher. Morgan is now 10-0 in duals on the year. Esai Dominguez defeated All-American Travis Elg 8-3 in the 149-pound bout.

    George Ivanov won his second consecutive match by fall. He pinned Justin Turek with just two second left in the second period to get the win at 157. The Council Bluffs, Iowa native is 28-8 on the year with a 9-1 dual mark. Ryan Pankoke defeated Tel Todd 7-4 to earn the win at 165.

    At 174, Aaron Denson picked up his second win since returning from an injury that was aggravated at the NWCA Duals in January. Denson defeated eight-ranked Ben Becker 11-2 and earned the team bonus points with the major decision.

    Austin Boehm rebounded from his loss last night and collected an 8-3 decision over Aaron Norgren at 184. Top-ranked Jacob Marrs earned a riding time bonus point and put away John Makabe 6-2 in the 197-pound bout.

    The heavy weight bout featured the top two wrestlers in Division II with MSU's top-ranked Brady Wilson squaring off with second-ranked Elijah Madison. Wilson and Madison exchanged escapes in the second and third periods, but it was Wilson who scored a takedown with 26 second left in to take the 3-1 lead. Madison scored a late escape, but Wilson held on for the 3-2 win.

    The Mavericks will be back on the mat on Sunday, Feb. 14 for the 2010 MIAA Duals in Hays, Kan. UNO will see a busy afternoon with three duals on the docket. The Mavs will face Central Missouri at 1 p.m., Truman State at 3 p.m. and host school Fort Hays State at 5 p.m. UNO won the tournament last season which was hosted by UCM.
