Former coach Jess Wilder left the program in 2005 with a career record of 93-25, a third place finish in the 2005 NAIA national tournament, the highest Patriot finish yet recorded, and six All-Americans. After building a strong well-balanced team, Coach Wilder turned the program over to one of his formal wrestlers and 2001 national championship, Andy Medders.
Coach Medders took the position with strong expectations. After a 2nd place finish at the Keen Cliffs national dual in Cedar Falls, IA in 2006, the highest national dual finish for the program, Coach Medders has made a second historical finish already for the men's wrestling team in the same season. Tuesday night as the University of the Cumberlands men's wrestling team pounded the Tigers of Campbellsville University; the team also captured their 100th career win.
Coach Medders had this to say, "What better way to capture our 100th career win then at home in front of our supporters. The guys wrestled well and I am happy to be part of this historic moment."
