Following a win over the Quakers, Cornell improves its overall dual record to 9-5 with a 4-0 mark in Ivy League competition. The Big Red handed Penn (5-6, 2-2 Ivy) its second Ivy League loss of the season.
After dropping the opening bout at 141 pounds, Cornell rattled off seven-straight wins over the Quakers to amass an insurmountable 27-3 lead.
Bringing home the Big Red's first win of the afternoon was 149-pounder Hunter Richard, who defeated Lucas Revano, 8-2, in his first match since earning a spot on FloWrestling's rankings. Richard has won seven straight matches in a Big Red singlet. Adam Santoro and Jake Brindley followed up Richard's win with two decisions of their own at 157 pounds and 165 pounds, respectively. Santoro bested Cam Connor, 7-1, and Brindley defeated Jake Lizak, 5-1. Andrew Berreyesa continued the train of victories for Cornell at 174 pounds with a 7-6 decision over Neil Antrassian to remain unbeaten in duals this season.
Jonathan Loew used a takedown mid-way through the third period of the 184-pound bout to stick his opponent, John Stout, in 5:47. In his return to competition, Ben Darmstadt was on Cole Urbas early, taking the 197-pound Penn grappler down in the opening seconds of the bout and pinning him in 24 seconds.
Brendan Furman and Chas Tucker closed the dual out for the Big Red with a pair of wins by decision at heavyweight and 133 pounds. Tucker scored five takedowns on Carmen Ferrante en route to a 10-3 victory, and Furman defeated Nate Hoaglund, 4-0.
Up Next: Cornell will hit that mat next on Sunday, Feb. 9 for a 1 p.m. match at Princeton University in Princeton, N.J. Cornell seeks its 18th consecutive league title, while Princeton searches for its first since 1986. Princeton has brought three-time All-American Matt Kolodzik (149 pounds) out of Olympic redshirt to aid them against Cornell.
