A win on Saturday improves Cornell's record to 10-6 overall and 5-2 against EIWA opponents, while Binghamton falls to 3-11 and 2-9 in the EIWA. The win over Binghamton is Cornell's 38th straight over New York state opponents. Cornell is now 81-15-1 all-time inside the Friedman Wrestling Center.
It was senior day for the Big Red, who honored a multitude of wrestlers and other individuals associated with the program. Honored on the wrestling side was Noah Baughman, Milik Dawkins, Jacob Lehr, Ian McNitt, Jimmy Overhiser, Rami Pellumbi, Max Pickett, Mike and Matt Russo, Chris Schoenherr, Chas Tucker and Brandon Womack. Baughman, Schoenherr and Tucker all picked up wins in the starting lineup on Saturday.
Baughman opened the dual at 141 pounds with a 4-3 decision over two-time NCAA qualifier, Anthony Sparacio. Action went off the mat with 10 seconds remaining in the bout, giving Baughman an opportunity to shoot and score on the restart. Baughman found the takedown with five seconds remaining to defeat Sparacio.
Hunter Richard continued to roll through his competition, staying very active throughout his entire bout with Matt Swanson. Richard used five takedowns to defeat Swanson by major decision, 15-4. Following Richard's match at 149, Adam Santoro had the easiest match of the afternoon, taking a win by forfeit at 157 pounds.
Appearing in his first dual since a pair of appearances at the 2018-19 South Beach Duals, Schoenherr made the most of his final time wrestling in Friedman. Schoenherr put on a show, electrifying the crowd to the tune of six takedowns en route to a 13-5 major decision at 165 pounds.
Andrew Berreyesa gave Cornell an unblemished 20-0 lead following his match at 174 pounds, defeating Alex Melikian by decision, 10-5.
Cornell's first of two losses on the day came at 184 pounds, where Jonathan Loew matched up with #5 Lou DePrez. DePrez, who owns wins over NC State's Trent Hidlay and Ben Darmstadt, defeated Loew by major decision, 15-4. Darmstadt would avenge Loew's loss however, pinning Sam DePrez in 1:48 during the 197-pound bout.
Binghamton found its second major decision of the day at heavyweight, where Joe Doyle bested Seth Janney, 11-2.
The Big Red closed Saturday's dual with a pair of lightweight wins, with Dom LaJoie defeating Tommaso Frezza at 125 pounds, 4-3, and Chas Tucker topping Zack Trampe in sudden victory, 8-6. It's another ranked victory for Tucker, who improves to 26-0 for the season and 10-0 against ranked opponents. Trampe isn't yet ranked via FloWrestling, but checked in at No. 9 on InterMat earlier this week. Tucker has won 40 straight non-NCAA Tournament matches and 26 straight dual matches, and is lossless in the regular season since Dec. 30, 2018.
