Johnson Mai got Columbia going in the right direction, picking up a 7-1 victory at 125 for his first win of the season.
After Hofstra evened the team score at 3-3 with a win at 133, Jacob Macalolooy came out firing at 141. The junior notched his second tech fall of the year, ending the match in the second period with a 17-1 margin in his favor.
Although the Lions would drop the 149-pound match, Columbia would not surrender the lead, taking the next three matches. Laurence Kosoy tallied an 8-5 victory to make the team score 11-6, before Tyrel White gave Columbia bonus points with a 12-1 major decision at 165.
In the 174-pound bout, Max Elling was down 6-0 and nearly pinned by Sage Heller, before picking up a reversal and getting Heller on his back in the first. After nearfall points of his own the Columbia sophomore was able to get the pinfall of Heller, making it a 21-6 lead with just three bouts remaining.
Hofstra picked up wins at 184 and 197, before Garrett Ryan closed the door with a 10-4 victory over Omar Haddad, making the final team score 24-12.
Columbia will be back in action next weekend, with duals at Harvard and Brown on Jan. 28. Both matches can bee seen live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
