The opening match was supposed to put two of the top wrestlers at 125 in the SoCon against each other. However, Campbell freshman Korbin Meink (23-9, 4-0 SoCon) was out with an injury. UTC junior Alonzo Allen (18-8, 6-1 SoCon) took advantage and posted an 18-5 major decision over Aaron Burton.
Junior Chris Debien really got the Mocs rolling with his win at 133. Campbell junior Nathan Boston came into the match ranked in the top-25 in some polls. Debien used an escape and a takedown in the third period for a 5-2 win. Debein enters the SoCon Tournament with an 11-12 overall mark, 5-1 in league duals.
After senior Michael Pongracz scored a win at 141, Campbell got on the board with a victory at 149. Freshman Jake Adcock scored a big win for the Mocs with a 6-5 decision over Austin Kraisser. Kraisser came into the match with a 5-1 league mark, but Adcock scored an escape late in the third for the win.
Senior Chad Pyke also got into the action with an outstanding performance at 165. He scored an 11-3 major decision over Quentin Perez. Perez was 22-5 overall and 5-0 in SoCon duals before Pyke got today's victory. Pyke is now 19-9 and 6-1 in league action.
Seniors Justin Lampe, Bryce Carr and Scottie Boykin closed out the match for the Mocs. UTC has two weeks to prepare for the 2018 Southern Conference Tournament set for March 3 in Charleston, S.C.
