Before a crowd of 900, Fullerton improved its record to 4-11 while Menlo fell to 2-5 in a meet held simultaneously with a women's gymnastics meet ("Beauty and the Beast") between Fullerton and UCLA.
The teams split a pair of overtime matches. Menlo heavyweight Ben Flores got a takedown in the sudden victory period for a 3-1 decision over Matt Methling. The 133-bout went into three overtimes as T. J. Dillashaw and Alfonso Paez battled to a 1-1 draw through regulation. Neither wrestler scored in a 1-minute sudden-victory period and each wrestler rode out his opponent for the full 30-second double overtime periods. Dillashaw scored a takedown late in the next one-minute sudden victory period.
Four Titan seniors concluded their Titan Gym careers. Risto Marttinen won a 14-7 decision at 165, Jesse Taylor scored a 9-0 win at 184 and Chris Chambers followed with an 11-0 major decision at 197 after Shawn Reilly had to default at 157 due to a knee injury.
Fullerton travels next week for dual meets at Air Force, Northern Colorado and Wyoming. Menlo will wrestle Saturday at the All-California Invitational in San Francisco.
