    Buffalo handles SIU-Edwardsville

EDWARDSVILLE, IL -- The University at Buffalo wrestling team (3-14, 0-6 MAC) picked up their most dominant performance of the season on Sunday afternoon as they defeated Southern Illinois-Edwardsville by the score of 27-12. The win for the Bulls marked the 100th career dual meet victory for head coach John Stutzman.

"It's been a tough stretch for the guys but they continue to fight hard and give their all," said first year head coach John Stutzman. "This win was very important for us and now we must move on, and get ready for Binghamton next weekend."

The Bulls snapped a seven match losing streak on Sunday by recording a season-high three victories by fall on the afternoon. The previous season-high for pins in a dual was two when the Bulls defeated Seton Hill earlier this season.

Max Soria started the match off for the Bulls with his best effort of the season at 125 pounds. Soria wasted no time as he earned his first victory by fall this season and the third of his career at the 1:56 mark of the opening period.

Buffalo was able to extend their early lead to 9-0 at 133 pounds as Justin Farmer picked up his 10th victory of the season with a decisive 5-1 victory over John Petrov. Farmer set the tempo from early on and never let his opponent back in the match.

At 141 pounds, Nick Flannery continued to make the Bulls lead grow as he earned his second victory by fall on the season at the 3:53 mark of the second period. With the win, Flannery has 15 victories this season for the Bulls, ranking him third on the team.

The Bulls continued to put the pressure on the Cougars in the next match as freshman Ryan Todora dominated Karsten Van Velsor at 149 pounds by the score of 5-1. The win for Todora was sixth of the season and his second dual meet victory of his young career.

The final pin of the afternoon for the Bulls came at 157 pounds as Wally Maziarz was able to win by fall at 2:57 of the second period. The fall victory was Maziarz's first of the season and the third of his career as he picked up his 12th win of the season.

The Maziarz pin gave the Bulls the dominant 24-0 lead after the first five matches of the afternoon and the Cougars were not able to come back from the early deficit.

Following back-to-back Cougar decision victories, Tony Lock put together another solid outing to pick up three points for the Bulls with the 5-2 decision victory over Deshaun White. Lock has been on a roll lately for the Bulls, picking up three wins in his last four duals. Lock now has a team-leading 17 wins on the season, a career-high for the sophomore.

The Bulls dropped the final two matches of the afternoon but the early lead the top of their lineup created could not be overcome by the Cougars as the Bulls held on to the 27-12 victory. Buffalo now has three dual meet victories on the season, three times as many wins as last season.

As a team the Bulls scored a season-high 53 points while earning 11 takedowns and five three point near falls.

Buffalo will return home on Friday, February 14 for a dual with Binghamton at 7:00 pm and then hit the road for a conference clash with Eastern Michigan on Sunday, February 16 at 1:00 pm.
