After dropping the first match, Derek Spann quickly tied the dual with a 10-4 decision over Killian Cardinale at 133. The Bulls' redshirt sophomore stayed perfect, improving to 10-0 in duals on the season.
One of the key bouts of the day came at 141 lbs. where Bryan Lantry, ranked 11th in the nation, faced off against eighth-ranked Sa'Derian Perry, an All-American. After falling behind, 2-1, Lantry was dominant the rest of the way and earned an 11-3 major decision to give the Bulls a 7-3 lead in the dual.
The Monarchs won the next two matches to regain a 9-7 lead. In the next match, Troy Keller trailed 4-2 heading into the third period, before scoring six points in the final period to stun Shane Jones, 6-5.
Old Dominion won at 174 to take a 12-10 lead in the dual with three matches remaining. However, the Bulls won the final three matches of the day to earn the victory.
Logan Rill held off Dean Drugac, 3-2, at 184 lbs. to put the Bulls ahead 13-12. Brett Perry followed with a 6-5 decision over Tim Young at 197 to extend the UB lead to 16-12. Jake Gunning capped off the win with a 4-2 decision over Ali Wahab at heavyweight. It was Gunning's 10th dual victory of the season and moved the senior into a tie for fourth in school history with 47 career duals wins.
"Today's dual was won at 125 and 141 when they scored at the end of their matches," head coach John Stutzman said. "Plus, Lantry beating a returning All-American was huge. Our seniors led the way today."
Buffalo improved to 8-4 overall and 1-2 in MAC duals. The Bulls will next wrestle at Kent State on Saturday.
