In their regular season finale, the Bears (8-7, 5-5 EIWA) won five of the match's final six bouts to come back from an early 9-6 deficit against the host Pride (6-11, 2-7 EIWA). With their 8-7 record, the Bears finish above .500 for the first time since going 9-8 in dual competition during the 2011-12 season.
Victories from Viruet (Springfield, Mass.) and LaBrie (Exeter, R.I.) helped Brown flip a 9-9 tie at the midpoint of the dual into a 17-9 advantage with three bouts remaining.
Senior Steven Galiardo (Chicago, Ill.) and sophomores CJ LaFragola (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) and Ian Butterbrodt (North Andover, Mass.) each picked up victories via decision. Junior Zeke Salvo (Baltimore, Md.) won through forfeit at 141 lbs.
Hofstra won the meet's first two bouts before Salvo's win via forfeit tied the contest at 6-6. After the Pride pulled ahead 9-6, the Bears then won four straight bouts to gain a 20-9 advantage.
Galiardo started the run with a 10-3 win over Jake Kaminsky at 157 lbs. Viruet then followed with a 15-5 major decision against Cory Goshkagarian at 165 lbs.
LaBrie extended Brown's margin to 17-9 with a 14-4 major decision over Sage Heller at 174 lbs., and LaFragola completed the 4-0 bout run with a 10-4 triumph over Bobby Fehr at 184 lbs.
Butterbrodt closed the dual with a 5-1 win over Mike Oxley at 285 lbs.
Next, Brown competes at the EIWA Championships on the campus of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., from March 3-4.
