Competing in their home and dual finale, the Bears (8-6, 6-5 EIWA) tallied three technical falls, two major decisions, and a fall in their victory over the Pioneers (5-7, 1-5 EIWA) as the hosts closed the regular season on a four-dual win streak.
"We won our last four dual meets to end the regular season so we have a lot of momentum heading into the EIWA Championships," Brown head coach Todd Beckerman said. "We'll take these next two weeks to get ourselves physically and mentally prepared for the conference tournament. We have a lot of guys who are competing well right now and are looking forward to seeing what they can do out in Binghamton to advance to the NCAA Championships."
Junior Trey Keeley (Washington, Ill.) notched his second pin of the season and finished the regular season with an 18-12 record. Senior Tucker Ziegler (Myersville, Md.), sophomore Hunter Kosco (Canal Fulton, Ohio), and junior Zach Krause (Plainfield, Ill.) all registered technical falls.
Senior Ian Butterbrodt (North Andover, Mass.) won his 11th straight bout, improving to 15-6 on the season, 11-0 in duals, and 8-0 in EIWA duals. He posted his fifth major decision and his eighth shutout of the season.
Senior Jon Viruet (Springfield, Mass.) notched his eighth major decision of the year, bettering his record to 28-5 overall, 13-1 in duals, and 11-0 in EIWA duals. Fellow senior CJ LaFragola (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) earned a decision, closing the regular season with a 21-7 overall mark, 12-2 dual record, and 9-2 EIWA dual record.
Senior Christian LaBrie (Exeter, R.I.) and junior Theo Powers (Mexico, N.Y.) each added a win via decision.
Opening the dual at 197 pounds, Ziegler notched a 15-0 technical fall over Connor Fredericks before Butterbrodt followed with an 11-0 major decision over Dante Delbonis – his sixth shutout in dual competition.
Keeley followed with a pin of Ryan Burns in 2:29 at 125 pounds, making the team score 15-0. Kosco then charted a 16-0 technical fall over Will Bianchi at 133 pounds, and Powers posted a 12-7 decision over Gerard Daly at 141 pounds, bringing the team score to 23-0.
At 149 pounds, Krause notched a 16-0 technical fall over Chris Cornell, at 157 pounds LaBrie topped TJ Calas, 9-2, and at 165 pounds Viruet – ranked No. 17 at 165 – compiled a 16-4 major decision over Brandon Levesque as Brown won the dual's first eight bouts and moved ahead 35-0. LaFragola closed the dual with an 11-5 victory over Kyle Davis.
Next, Brown will compete at the EIWA Championships from March 8-9 at Binghamton University.
