In their first home dual meets of the season, the Bears (3-2, 1-0 EIWA) gained wins in 17 of the day's 20 bouts, taking eight bouts against the Huskies (3-12) in their first dual of the day before capturing nine wins in their EIWA opener against the Diplomats (2-5, 0-4 EIWA) as part of the team's Alumni Weekend.
Viruet (Springfield, Mass.) recorded his team-best fifth major decision win of the season while junior Zeke Salvo (Baltimore, Md.) and sophomore Tucker Ziegler (Myersville, Md.) both posted pins on the day with Salvo logging his team-leading eighth fall of the season.
Viruet, Ziegler, senior Steven Galiardo (Chicago, Ill.), and sophomores Travis Vasquez (Fair Lawn, N.J.), CJ LaFragola (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.), and Ian Butterbrodt (North Andover, Mass.) all earned two wins on the day.
Next, Brown hosts Bucknell tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 22, at noon in an EIWA dual meet at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Dual 1: Brown 31, Bloomsburg 6
Salvo earned his eighth pin of the year, Viruet tallied his fifth major decision of the season, and Brown beat Bloomsburg, 31-6, in its first home dual of the 2016-17 campaign.
The Bears won eight of 10 bouts in the match to distance themselves from the visiting Huskies.
Galiardo, junior Michael Russo (Jersey City, N.J.), Vasquez, LaFragola, and Butterbrodt all recorded wins via decision.
Opening at 125 lbs., Russo took a 6-5 decision over Willy Girard. In the third period, Russo posted an escape and then a takedown to pull ahead 5-2 en route to the win.
Salvo put the Bears up 9-3 in the team score with his pin of Grant Bond at 141 lbs. in the second period at the 4:38 mark. Salvo notched a pair of near falls in the second stanza before posting the pin.
At 149 lbs., Vasquez registered a 4-0 shutout win against Nate Newberry. Vasquez scored a takedown in the first and an escape and riding time point in the third frame. Galiardo followed with a 5-2 win at 157 lbs., defeating Kevin Laubach.
Viruet capped a four-bout winning streak for the Bears with a 10-0 major decision victory over Reid Stanley at 165 lbs. Viruet logged a 4-point near fall in the second period and a 2-point near fall in the third as part of his shutout win.
At 184 lbs., LaFragola won 2-1 with an escape and riding time point, Ziegler won via forfeit at 197 lbs., and Butterbrodt concluded the dual with an 8-2 win at 285 lbs., scoring all eight of his points in the third period.

Dual 2: Brown 36, Franklin & Marshall 4
Viruet won via technical fall at 165 lbs., and Ziegler posted his pin in the last contested bout of the dual at 197 lbs. as Brown topped Franklin & Marshall, 36-4, in its first conference dual meet of the season.
Ziegler notched his fourth fall of the season in the first period at the 0:50 mark while Viruet logged his technical fall behind 12 points in the third period. Junior Andrew LaBrie (Exeter, R.I.) added a major decision victory at 174 lbs.
Vasquez, Galiardo, LaFragola, and freshmen Trey Keeley (Washington, Ill.), and Jimmy Pawelski (Park Ridge, Ill.) all registered wins via decision.
Starting at 125 lbs., Keeley won 7-4 over Edgar Garcia, posting a pair of takedowns before Pawelski shut out Dan Martoccio, 4-0, at 133 lbs. Vasquez blanked Nick Maher at 149 lbs., 6-0, with four points in the third period.
At 157 lbs., Gaiardo defeated Emmett LiCastri, 9-8, using an escape late in the bout to break an 8-8 tie. Viruet followed with a 20-4 technical fall win over Mike Berkowitz, scoring 12 points in the third period, including a 4-point near fall to seal the bout.
LaBrie took a major decision win over Jimmy Stillerman at 174 lbs., 10-4, using a 4-point near fall to initiate a 7-1 run in the third stanza. At 184, LaFragola gained an 8-5 win over Anthony Mancini behind four takedowns. Ziegler closed the competitive portion of the match with a pin in 50 seconds over Jack Argast. Butterbrodt took a win via forfeit in the heavyweight slot.
