    Boise State defeats Arizona State

BOISE, Idaho - After conceding seven-straight points in the opening two bouts, the Boise State wrestling team (6-5, 2-1 Pac-12) won the remaining eight bouts to defeat Pac-12 foe Arizona State, 33-7 at Taco Bell Arena, Sunday.

Brian Owen (133) and Jason Chamberlain (149) dominated their opponents as each earned five team points from technical falls in the third period. The result was Owen's first technical fall of the season while Chamberlain had earned one earlier in the season.

Chamberlain, who entered the match ranked second in his weight class, has now outscored opponents 213-74 this season.

Jake Swartz (184) and Scott Bacon (174) each earned bonus points during the match as well. Swartz tallied his team-best eight major decision of the year, defeating Kevin Radford 11-2 and improving his overall record to 23-3 this season.

The major decision was Bacon's third as the Republic, Wash., native has accumulated an 11-4 record in his last 15 bouts.

Redshirt senior Josh Strait earned a dramatic win in his first action of the season. Strait was up 1-0 heading into the third period against Matt Kraus but gave up a reversal with just over a minute remaining, giving Kraus a 2-1 edge. With about 50 seconds in the bout Strait was able to escape and level the score line at 2-2. Both wrestlers looked for their shots and Strait would be the first and last to find a successful one, getting a takedown at the seven-second mark to win 4-2.

George Ivanov and Holden Packard provided some insurance for the Broncos at 157 and 165 pounds respectively. Each traded takedowns for escapes all match as Ivanov finished with a 12-5 advantage and Packard an 8-4 edge.

Junior Cody Dixon battled with No. 5 Jake Meredith into the third period where he trailed 5-2. Meredith, however, sustained an injury during the bout and was forced to forfeit after his injury time expired giving the Broncos six more points to cap things off.

Boise State will next host CSU Bakersfield, Feb. 1, for the first of two Beaut and the Beast meets.
