    Bloomsburg falls to West Virginia

    BLOOMSBURG -- Despite taking an early lead in the match with two major decisions in the first three bouts, the Bloomsburg University wrestling team fell in Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) action to West Virginia, 22-14, on Friday night. With the loss, the Huskies move to 7-7 on the season, 1-1 in EWL match-ups.

    With the match beginning at the 125-pound weight class, the Huskies jumped out to a 4-0 lead when Justin Thomas (Hunlock Creek/Benton) won a major decision over West Virginia's Scott Stuart. With the win, Thomas improves to 3-0 in dual-match competition this season. In the second bout of the night, 20th-ranked Seth Lisa put the Mountaineers on the board with a 9-4 win over Ricky Donald (Milton/Bloomsburg).

    Brad Forbes (Downingtown/Downingtown) gave the Huskies' their second win of the night with an 11-0 major decision win over West Virginia's Teddy Adams. The major decision is the fourth on the season for Forbes.

    The Mountaineers went on a four-bout streak to take a 17-8 lead going into the 184-pound match. The chain of wins began with an 8-4 decision win from EWL Wrestler of the Week, David Jauregui over George Hickman (Wilmington, NC/Riverside) at 149 pounds.

    In the 157-pound bout, second-ranked Matt Lebe won a 12-4 major decision over Aric Fuhrman (Spring Grove/Delone Catholic), followed by an 8-7 win by Larry Hall over Frank Beasley (Oden, IL/Centralia) at 165 pounds.

    Kurt Brenner gave West Virginia another major decision win at the 174-pound bout with a 12-3 victory over Andrew Jordan (Newark, KE/St. Mark's).

    Bloomsburg got their third bout win from Nate Shirk (Middleburg/Middleburg) at 184 pounds. Shirk, with the 3-2 win over the Mountaineers' Chance Litton, won his fifth consecutive dual match for the Huskies.

    Jared Villers clinched the dual-match win for West Virginia with a technical fall win at the 1:48 mark over the Huskies' Chris Swan (Saylorsburg/Pleasant Valley).

    In the final match-up, Mike Spaid (Boyertown/Boyertown) picked up a 9-7 decision win for the Huskies over West Virginia's Matt Holsopple. The win is the fourth in the last six for Spaid, who is 2-0 all-time against Holsopple in dual-match action.

    The Huskies will travel to Slippery Rock next weekend for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.
