Waters was a perfect 3-0 at the Virginia Duals this past weekend, helping the Tigers reach the championship bout. He opened things up with a 4-2 victory over No. 19 Trent Sprinkle of North Dakota State, as Mizzou went on to win 24-9. In the semifinals against Edinboro, Waters defeated Kory Mines by a 6-2 score, helping the Tigers pull out a 19-16 victory. Despite the team loss in the championship to Kent State, Waters scored his second win of the year over No. 4 Nic Bedelyon. The two battled into overtime, with Waters scoring the decisive takedown in sudden victory. Waters is now 3-0 all-time against Bedelyon.
This season, Waters is 17-1 overall and 8-0 in duals. He is 6-1 on the year against top-20 wrestlers and has won 12 of his 17 matches with bonus points.
Waters and the Tigers have a week off before returning to action on Sunday, Jan. 29. Missouri will travel to Edwardsville, Ill., for a quad-meet against Eastern Michigan, SIU-Edwardsville and Truman State, beginning at 1 p.m. CT.
