The Cowboys (11-2, 6-0 Big 12) won nine of the dual's 10 matches, with four of those resulting in bonus points (two pins, one tech fall, one major decision).
“We're trying to build momentum,†OSU head coach John Smith said. “I think we look at this particular dual and see we scored a lot of points, but we also need to recognize it does get a lot tougher as we move through the end of the season.â€
The dual began at 125 pounds, where No. 6 Eddie Klimara picked up his 99th career victory in a dominant 15-0 technical fall over Jacob Fontanez.
Klimara jumped in front early with a quick takedown and three two-point nearfalls to take an 8-0 lead at the end of the first period. In the second, Klimara quickly escaped, took down Fontanez and scored a four-point nearfall to secure the tech fall (3:58).
“I'm just trying to get the guys fired up. If I go out there and start slow, it's a threat for other guys to go slow so I'm just going out there to wrestle hard and motivate the team,†Klimara said after his tech fall victory.
Coming off of matchups with No. 1 and No. 4 at 133 pounds, Gary Wayne Harding used four takedowns and nearly four minutes of riding time to secure 10-3 victory, putting the Pokes up 8-0 in the match.
Top-ranked Dean Heil defeated Army's Logan Everett, 7-2, at 141-pounds to improve to 22-0 this season.
No. 13 Anthony Collica scored six takedowns in his matchup with Mark Marchetti before sticking the Black Knight at 6:05. Collica's second-straight win by fall brings his season win total to 20.
“We were all stunned,†Smith said of his 149-pounder's victory. “It was a move we haven't seen all year from him or coached him to do. We like to see him being creative and putting extra points on the board.â€
The Cowboys suffered their lone loss of the dual at 157 pounds as Ryan Blees, making his second dual start of the season, fell to Russell Parsons, 10-4.
In the next match, two-time national champion Alex Dieringer continued to assert his dominance on the 165-pound division as he extended his winning streak to 71 consecutive matches.
With under five seconds remaining in the match, Dieringer recorded his fifth takedown and then pinned Andrew Mendel's shoulders to the mat with just one second remaining. The fall is Dieringer's ninth of the season and 22nd win that resulted in bonus points for the Cowboys.
“I'm always going for bonus points,†Dieringer said. “It was a sloppy match, but I've got to move past it and get ready for Stanford.
At 174, Chandler Rogers stepped into the lineup once again, this time picking up the victory over No. 18 Brian Harvey, 11-8, in a hard-fought match. Rogers' officially clinched the match for the Cowboys as they lead the Black Knights 26-3.
After knocking off the nation's top-ranked 184-pounder last week, No. 14 Nolan Boyd nearly picked up bonus points again as he defeated Samson Imonode 10-3.
Preston Weigel won a thrilling match against Army's Bryce Barnes. Barnes took down Weigel with three seconds remaining in the match, but it wasn't enough as the Cowboy had locked up the riding time point to win, 10-8.
In the dual's final matchup, No. 5 Austin Marsden won OSU's ninth match of the night and extended his own winning streak to 14 straight as he knocked off Trevor Smith, 12-3.
OSU wraps up its Valentine's weekend competition against Stanford on Sunday at 2 p.m. inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
