For the fifth straight year, the season gets underway at the Bison Open when the Golden Gophers head to Fargo, N.D. on Nov. 14. A week later, on Nov. 21, the Golden Gophers head to the Kaufman-Brand Open hosted by Nebraska-Omaha, before hosting their first home meet of the season. On Saturday, Nov. 28, Cal State Bakersfield, visits Minnesota at the Sports Pavilion.
December begins with a road trip to perennial power Oklahoma State on Friday, Dec. 4, before a home match with Nebraska on Thursday Dec. 10. The Huskers placed fourth at the NCAA Championships last March. On Sunday, Dec. 13, Minnesota is back on the road as they travel to Northern Colorado, before taking some time off for the Holidays. After the break, the Golden Gophers close out the month in Greensboro, N.C. for the Southern Scuffle on Dec. 29-30.
On Jan. 3, Minnesota returns home to the Sports Pavilion and opens 2010 with their second top-four team from last season, in Iowa State. The Cyclones finished in third place last season at the National Championship meet. The following weekend, it's off to Cedar Falls, Iowa for the National Duals on Jan. 9-10. The next action for the Golden Gophers is a weekend swing to Michigan to open the Big Ten season. As the Big Ten slate opens, it will not include Northwestern or Ohio State are they are the two league teams not on the schedule in 2009-10. On Jan. 22 and 23 Minnesota travels to Michigan State and Michigan respectively, and the Wolverines were 11th in the final standings at the 2009 NCAA Championships.
January then closes with the season's first set of back-to-back home duals. On Friday, Jan. 29 Wisconsin, who was ninth at the NCAA Championships last season, visits the Sports Pavilion for a 7:00 p.m. match-up. Then on Sunday, Jan. 31 Minnesota hosts Purdue in a 2:00 p.m. tilt.
After Big Ten road duals at Illinois and Indiana February 5 and 6 respectively, the Golden Gophers get the luxury of closing out the regular season at home. On Sunday, Feb. 14, in one of the most anticipated matches every season, Minnesota hosts the rival Iowa Hawkeyes, the defending National Champions. The match is set for a 7:30 p.m. start in Williams Arena.
Finally the regular season comes to a close at the Sports Pavilion on Friday Feb. 19 in a 7:00 p.m. meet with Penn State. With March, comes tournament time and Minnesota will be on the road at the Big Ten Championships on Mar. 6-7 in Ann Arbor, Mich. and at the NCAA Championships in Omaha, Neb. on Mar. 18-20.
Before the season gets underway however, Golden Gopher Wrestling invites fans to the 2009-10 Meet the Team, held on Oct. 2. The event will be held in the Williams Arena Club room and will begin with a social at 5:30 p.m., followed by a dinner at 6:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to attend and help welcome 14 newcomers to Golden Gopher Wrestling.
