Massa, Parris earn pins as Michigan routs Indiana

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan wrestling team picked up its third straight lopsided win to start the season, taking eight of 10 matches to defeat Indiana, 32-6, on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 17) at Cliff Keen Arena. U-M earned bonus points in three matches, including pins from sixth-year senior Logan Massa and junior Mason Parris.

Massa and Parris, ranked second nationally at 174 pounds and heavyweight, respectively, earned their third straight bonus wins in as many matches on the season. Massa used a cement mixer to pin DJ Washington at the 6:38 mark after a pair of four-point bow-and-arrow turns in the second and third frames. It was his first fall of the season. Parris stuck the Hoosiers' Rudy Streck with a crusher at 2:06 for his second straight pin. Parris led the Wolverines in falls each of the previous two seasons.

Freshman Jaden Bullock picked up Michigan's other bonus win with a 16-0 technical fall over Drayton Harris in his dual debut at 184 pounds. Bullock, who weighed in at 174, broke the match open early with three four-point tilts in the first period and used a scramble to spin behind for the match-ending takedown at 3:48. Bullock is the third U-M true freshman to earn his first collegiate win this season and the fourth Wolverine to earn his first dual-meet win.

Freshman Dylan Ragusin, ranked 10th at 125 pounds, toughed a 6-4 decision against 14th-ranked Brock Hudkins in the marquee match of the dual. The wrestlers traded takedowns in the first period before Ragusin used a lengthy ride in the second to accumulate time advantage -- he finished with 1:22 -- and added an escape and stall point in the third. It win was Ragusin's second over a ranked opponent this season.

Sophomore/freshman Cameron Amine, ranked 16th, opened the dual with an 8-3 decision against Nick South to similarly stay unbeaten in his Keen Arena debut. Amine earned three takedowns -- two in the first period -- and accumulated 1:48 in riding-time advantage.

The Wolverines also closed the dual with three straight decisions. Senior/junior Drew Mattin used a big first period, scrambling into a double leg and tacking on a four-point bar tilt early, to defeat Kyle Luigs, 11-6, at 141 pounds. Fifth-year senior Kanen Storr, ranked sixth, scored takedowns in the first and third periods to beat Luke Baughman, 5-2, at 149 pounds, while junior/sophomore Will Lewan, ranked eighth, defeated his former high school teammate Matt Ortiz, 8-3, with three -- one per period -- and 1:21 riding-time advantage.

The Wolverines (3-0) will have a weekend off before resuming with their first of back-to-back tri-meets, taking on Iowa and Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 31, in Iowa City, Iowa.
