Arizona State, ranked No. 13 in InterMat's dual meet rankings, stunned the top-ranked Nittany Lions, 19-18, on Friday night in Tempe, Arizona, in front of a record-setting of 8,522, snapping their 60-match winning streak dating back to 2015. That loss came to Oklahoma State on Feb. 15, 2015.
"Arizona State is back and I think people have belief again," said Arizona State head wrestling coach Zeke Jones.

The two teams split the 10 matches.
No. 19 Brandon Courtney opened the dual meet with a dominant 19-7 victory over freshman Brody Teske to put ASU up 4-0. Courtney led 13-6 after the first two periods and secured the major decision in the final period.
Penn State All-Americans Roman-Bravo Young (133) and Nick Lee (141), both ranked No. 3, earned wins to put the Nittany Lions up 8-4. Bravo-Young edged Josh Kramer, 7-6, at 133 pounds. Lee rolled to an 18-3 technical fall over Cory Crooks.
Arizona State won back-to-back matches at 149 pounds and 157 pounds to take a 10-8 lead into intermission. Josh Maruca won a hard-fought 5-4 match over Jarod Verkleeren at 149 pounds in a battle of Pennsylvania natives. Freshman Jacori Teemer, ranked No. 17, topped Bo Pipher, 9-4.
After intermission, past NCAA champions Vincenzo Joseph and Mark Hall secured victories at 165 pounds and 174 pounds respectively to put Penn State back on top 15-10 with three matches remaining. Joseph defeated No. 5 Josh Shields in a rematch from last year's NCAA semifinals. Hall's victory came over a past rival, Anthony Valencia, 11-3.
Two-time NCAA champion Zahid Valencia of Arizona State received a forfeit at 184 pounds, which gave the Sun Devils a 16-15 lead. At 197 pounds, Arizona State's Kordell Norfleet, who redshirted last season, picked up a 10-4 victory over Kent State transfer Kyle Conel, a 2018 All-American, extending Arizona State's lead to 19-15 going into the final match.
At heavyweight, returning NCAA champion Anthony Cassar, ranked No. 1, faced All-American Tanner Hall, ranked No. 5. With the Sun Devils holding criteria, Cassar needed at least a technical fall to give Penn State the victory. Cassar looked strong early and nearly secured a fall in the first period, but Hall fought off his back and eventually held the match to a decision, which gave Arizona State the one-point victory.

With the victory, Arizona State improves to 5-0, while Penn State falls to 1-1.
