    ASU rolls to 32-7 victory over Cal Poly in regular season finale

    TEMPE, Ariz. -- The No. 12 Arizona State wrestling team sent their senior class in celebratory fashion as they defeated the Cal Poly Mustangs 32-7 Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena in the Beauty and the Beast meet with Sun Devil Gymnastics.

    The Sun Devils won all but two bouts in the meet, and four of their eight victories came by bonus points.

    Cory Crooks started the evening off with an 8-4 decision over Wyatt Cornelison at 141 lbs. before No. 18 Josh Maruca (149) earned a victory by way of forfeit, earning six more points for the Sun Devils. At 157 lbs., No. 12 Christian Pagdilao earned a 5-4 decision over Brawley Lamar.

    No. 4 Josh Shields picked up the Sun Devils' first bonus point victory of the day at 165 lbs., earning a 18-6 major decision over Joe La Rosa.

    At 174 lbs., No. 3 Zahid Valencia pinned Nathan Tausch in 1:26, bringing ASU's lead to 22-0 heading into the break.

    The Sun Devils picked up another victory coming out of halftime, as senior Jacen Petersen (184) defeated William DeBoer in a 4-1 decision.

    Cal Poly picked up what would be their only victories of the meet at 197 lbs. and 285 lbs. bringing the score to 25-7 in favor of the home team.

    In his final regular season bout for the Maroon and Gold, senior Ryan Milhof (125) earned a major decision over Benny Martinez, 15-2. No. 25 Josiah Kline closed out the night with an 11-6 decision over Yoshito Funakoshi at 133 lbs.

    Following the match, Milhof, Petersen, Austyn Harris, Nikko Villareal, Ted Rico, Noor Almusahwi, Andy Gandara, Kaevon Buckley and Connor Small were honored, as seniors from both the wrestling and gymnastics teams were joined by their families at the center of the mat for senior night festivities.

    For the first time since 2016, Arizona State welcomes the 2019 Pac-12 Wrestling Championships in Tempe on Saturday, Mar. 9. A champion at each weight class will be crowned while several NCAA automatic qualifiers will also be decided. Earlier rounds will be live streamed by ASU while the evening round will be on Pac-12 Network. All-session tickets are now available on Ticketmaster.com.
