The Black Knights had an early 6-0 advantage right from the beginning as the Pride had to take a forfeit at 125lbs. Hofstra returned the favor at 133lbs to tie the match 6-6 after Garret Lambert secured a fall at 2:52 over Mark Montgomery.
Army used the loss as momentum, notching victories in the next two bouts. Logan Brown wrestled his way to a powerful 13-4 major decision victory to increase the Black Knight's lead.
P.J. Ogunsanya then grabbed his second pin of the season against Hofstra's Charles Kane. The junior took a quick 10-0 lead in the first only to overpower Kane for a fall at 2:10, giving Army a 16-6 advantage.
Despite a tough loss in the 157lb slot to move the score back within four, Beau Guffey wrestled his way to a 6-1 decision against Reece Heller. The Pride were able to move the score to the closest margin of the day (19-18) at 174lbs. Brad Laughlin was able to hold on to a 2-1 lead through two periods but saw defeat at the hands of Ross McFarland with only seconds remaining.
The Black Knights final three bouts proved to be the guiding force to a victory with strong performances from Taylor Brown, J.T. Brown and Ben Sullivan. Taylor Brown came out hot against Charles Small, putting a quick seven points on the board in the first. Brown would take an injury default victory over Small only :17 seconds into the second, allowing Army to increase their lead to 25-18.
J.T. Brown and Ben Sullivan closed out the day for the Black Knights at 197lbs and 285lbs respectively; Brown taking a 3-2 decision from Trey Rogers and Sullivan a 4-0 decision over Zack Knighton Ward.
After the Black Knights and the Pride competed in their 10 bouts, the two teams squared up for an additional seven matches. The seven matches didn't count towards either team score but will be reflected in the individual's overall records.

Coach Ward's Thoughts: "Definitely not a win you walk away feeling very good about. It looked to me like we had some matches where we weren't expecting them to fight as hard as they did and we didn't answer the right way when things got tough. When you don't match your opponents intensity bad things can happen and some bad things happened to us today. Pretty obvious to me that I didn't have our team prepared and that's on me. Bottom line, we have to be a much tougher team top to bottom.
But I did like the energy I saw out of PJ and Taylor Brown. Both guys looked excited to compete and picked up bonus point wins. Taylor's came at a time in the dual when we really needed it. And Ben Sullivan got a big win over a very tough opponent. So we did have a few brights spots. Overall, today is a wake up call for our team and our coaching staff. We have to do better."
