Seniors Paul Hancock (157 pounds) and Tyler Rauenzahn (141) and junior Chandler Smith (165) each notched bonus-point wins, with Rauenzahn pinning his opponent and Hancock and Smith each winning by major decision.
The match began with the 174-pounds bout, where sophomore Brian Harvey tallied a 4-0 decision over American's Keithen Cast to give Army an early 3-0 advantage. The Black Knights extended their lead to 9-0 after senior Ryan Tompkins (184) won 7-2 and sophomore Bryce Barnes (197) defeated Daniel Mitchell, who stands ninth at 197 pounds in Intermat's national poll, by a count of 2-1. Junior Stephen Snyder fell by major decision in the heavyweight match before 11th-ranked David Terao used a 12-5 decision over junior Hunter Wood to bring the Eagles back to a two-point deficit at 9-7.
In the 133-pound match, Black Knight freshman Logan Everett topped Esteban Gomez-Rivera, 5-4, to give his team a 12-7 cushion before Rauenzahn's pin made the score 18-7 with three bouts remaining. American's Mark Cirello won a decision over freshman Mark Marchetti at 149 pounds, but Army closed the match with consecutive major decisions, as Hancock and Smith topped their counterparts 8-0 and 12-4, respectively.
The Black Knights are back in action on Sunday, Jan. 26, when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa., where they will face Penn at 1 p.m. and Drexel at 7 p.m.
