He has missed most of this season with an injured shoulder. Conel was 2-0 and ranked No. 2 at 197 pounds. Last season Conel compiled a record of 28-8 and placed third at the NCAA Championships. He was an NCAA qualifier in 2016.
Conel announced on Twitter that he will be undergoing surgery, which will end his season.
I want to say thank you again to the wrestling community for changing my life. This sport has changed my life and I've become a better person because of it. Thank you everyone for your support over the years. It's crazy how you guys made me feel like I'm on top of the world.

I've been battling with an injury for awhile. I should have had it checked out sooner but I didn't. I've decided to choose my health and will be undergoing surgery that will end my season. I will be reevaluating my future in this sport and am doubtful I will continue after this.

Either way, it's been a roller coaster of a ride, and I wouldn't change anything about it. The lows make the highs much more enjoyable. Again, thank you guys so much for everything. Only time will tell how things will go.
