In their first dual of the day, Air Force posted a 37-6 victory over Simon Fraser. Freshman 165-pounder Tyler Wiederholt led the Falcons with the only pin of the dual meet in 4:28, while three others posted bonus point victories.
Drew Romero registered a 17-1 technical fall in the opening bout at 125 to give the Falcons an early 5-0 lead. Sam Kreimier (157) registered a 12-4 major decision, while Zen Ikehara (184) tallied an 11-2 major decision. Simon Fraser forfeited the 141 and 149 classes, giving up 12 team points early. Air Force dropped two decision bouts on the dual.
Air Force was met with stubborn resistance in the second dual of the day against Cal Baptist, dropping five of 10 bouts. Dane Robbins led the Falcons with a fall in 4:57 in the 157 bout.
Romero registered his second technical fall of the afternoon, 18-3, in the opening 125 bout. Dylan Hyder (133) and Alex Lopouchanski (165) rounded out the Falcons' bonus points with major decisions, 11-0, and 11-3, respectively.
The Falcons dropped bouts in the 141, 149, 174, 184 and 197 weights. With the score at 19-15, and the Lancers within striking distance, freshman heavyweight Kerry Powers edged out a decision victory to fend off the Cal Baptist comeback. Air Force outscored the Lancers, 22-15, at the final whistle.
In the final dual of the day, Western State jumped out to an early 6-0 lead with a fall over Romero in the 125 class. Undeterred, the Falcons rallied back winning six consecutive bouts from 133 to 174.
The Falcons registered four bonus point wins on the dual. Hyder (133) commanded an 18-0 technical fall followed by John Twomey's (141) 9-0 major decision. Anthony McLaughlin registered a 12-3 major decision in the 197 bout, while Powers (285) logged the Falcons' only pin of the dual in 3:54. Air Force outscored Western State, 31-9, at the final whistle.
Hyder, Robbins, Lopouchanski, McLaughlin and Powers all went 2-0 on the day. Air Force tallied three falls, three technical falls and five major decisions on the day. Hyder mustered an outstanding performance with nine bonus points from a major decision and a technical fall, while giving up no losses. Romero registered 10 points, the most on the day, with two technical falls, giving up one loss.
Air Force opens up their Big 12 Conference dual slate on the road against Utah Valley, Jan. 13, in Orem Utah. The dual is slated for 7:00 p.m. MT, and will be broadcast live by FloWrestling. Live stats for the dual will be available via Trackwrestling.com.
