    Two pins lead NC State to 30-9 win over WVU

    RALEIGH, N.C. -- With the dual tied 6-6 after the first four bouts, No. 8 NC State got four straight bonus point wins, including a pair of pins to break the score open and defeat visiting West Virginia 30-9 in Reynolds Sunday afternoon. Freshmen Thomas Bullard (157 pounds) and Nick Reenan (174) both scored pins in the final home regular season dual, and the Wolfpack (12-1) closed the dual with five bonus point wins in the last six matches overall.

    The dual started at 125 pounds with an 8-4 WVU win.

    Redshirt-sophomore Jamal Morris answered with his own 8-4 decision at 133 pounds to even the dual after two matches. Morris held a 3-2 lead going into the third, and recorded a pair of final period takedowns and tacked on the ride time point for the win over Cory Stanbrook.

    The Mountaineers scored a 4-2 decision at 141 pounds to retake the lead.

    On his Senior Day, redshirt-senior Sam Speno responded with a Wolfpack win, evening the dual four bouts in. Spent scored a first-period takedown, and used the second period to accumulate the ride time point in claiming the 3-2 win. Spends improves to a perfect 8-0 in duals this year.

    NC State took its first lead at 157 pounds, as Thomas Bullard recorded a second period pin to give the Pack the 12-6 lead at the halfway point. Up 2-1 to start the second, Bullard got a reversal and then a four-point nearfall to take an 8-1 lead, before turning Dayton Garrett for a second time and getting the pin at the 4:21 mark.

    After the intermission, redshirt-junior Brian Hamann made it back-to-back bonus point wins with an 8-0 major decision at 157 pounds. Hermann scored a first period takedown and then got a pair of two-point near falls to hold a 6-0 lead after the first.

    Freshman Nick Reenan record the Pack's second pin in three matches, with a first period fall at the 2:26 mark to increase the Pack's lead to 22-6. Reenan scored three first period takedowns, and on the fourth he caught his opponent in a headlock and scored the fall.

    Redshirt-junior Michael Macchiavello made it four straight bonus win for NC State, with his 12-4 major decision at 184 pounds. A takedown with 20 seconds left secured the major decision for Macchiavello.

    At 197 pounds, Malik McDonald fought back with a third period takedown but fell 8-5 to Jacob A. Smith.

    In the final match of the dual, redshirt-senior Mike Kosoy closed out with a 12-4 major decision. Kosoy started the second period on top and got a four-point near fall and then a two-point near fall for the commanding lead late in the match.

    Up Next: The Wolfpack will close out the regular season next weekend, as #8 NC State will travel to #5 Virginia Tech for the final ACC dual of the year. The conference title is on the line, as both teams are a perfect 4-0 in conference duals.
