American won the first two bouts of the day, at 125 and 133 pounds.
The Pack’s Sam Speno started the NC State scoring, as he recorded a 14-4 major decision at 141 pounds. Redshirt-freshman Cohl Fulk quickly gave the Pack the lead, as he scored a pin just 2:26 into his bout at 141 pounds to put the Pack up 10-6.
Following up their three straight wins in the ACC dual at Maryland on Saturday, the Pack’s Tommy Gantt, Nijel Jones and Pete Renda once again accomplished the feat to secure the dual for NC State. Gantt scored a 4-2 decision at 157 pounds, Jones notched his second straight major decision with a 15-3 win at 165 pounds, and Renda finished off it with a 17-2 tech fall win at 174 pounds to put NC State up 22-6 with three bouts left.
American claimed decisions in two of the final three bouts, but NC State held on for the 25-12 win. No. 6 Nick Gwiazdowski finished off the dual with a 7-4 win over No. 25 Blake Herrin at 285 pounds. Gwiazdowski has won 11 straight matches, and five of his last six wins have come over ranked foes.
The win was also head coach Pat Popolizio’s 99th career victory in dual action.
The Pack will return to action next weekend in the final two duals of the year. The Pack will first face Duke in an ACC dual and then Northwestern later in the day, both duals will be in Durham.
