    2009 NCAA Championships: Session II Running Blog

    RevWrestling.com is providing a running blog for Session II of the 2009 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. The most recent updates are listed at the top. Following tonight's action, RevWrestling.com will also be providing a Day 1 wrap.

    8:43 pm CT: That concludes our blogging from Session II. Thanks for joining us. We will be back blogging on Friday morning for the quarterfinals.

    8:40 pm CT: No. 7 Dan Erekson of Iowa had no trouble with Minnesota's Ben Berhow, picking up a 10-4 decision to advance to the quarterfinals.

    8:28 pm CT: Iowa State's Dave Zabriskie, seeded No. 1, comes from 6-1 deficit to win 9-8 over Dustin Rogers of West Virginia. Zabriske scored the winning takedown with under 10 seconds left in the match.

    8:20 pm CT: No. 4 Tyrel Todd of Michigan won a hard-fought match, 3-1, over Eric Lapotsky of Oklahoma to advance to the quarterfinals at 197.

    8:12 pm CT: Defending NCAA champion Mike Pucillo posts a shutout victory, 6-0, over Thomas Spellman of Virginia Tech at 184.

    8:04 pm CT: True freshman Quentin Wright of Penn State, seeded No. 11, was very impressive in picking up a huge victory over No. 6 Steve Anceravage of Cornell at 174.

    8:02 pm CT: No. 4 Jay Borschel of Iowa advanced to the quarterinals with an 8-2 victory over Trevor Perry of Indiana.

    7:57 pm CT: No. 5 Raymond Jordan of Missouri was too much for Iowa State's Duke Burk. The Tiger picked up a 12-4 major decision to advance to the quarterfinals and send the Cyclone to the consolation bracket.

    7:54 pm CT: True Freshman Andrew Howe of Wisconsin, seeded No. 2, advanced to the quarterfinals at 165with a 7-3 victory over Rick Schmelyun of Bloomsburg.

    7:51 pm CT: No. 3 Ryan Morningstar pf Iowa wins another close on, this time over Jason Lapham of Rider, 2-0, to advance to the quarterfinals at 165.

    7:43 pm CT: No. 6 Michael Chandler of Missouri advances to the quarterfinals with a 6-0 win over No. 11 Chase Pami of Cal Poly.

    7:41 pm CT: Tyler Safratowich of Minnesota pulled off another upset, knocking off No. 10 Matt Moley of Bloomsburg, 7-4, at 157.

    7:33 pm CT: No. 9 Cyler Sanderson of Iowa State edged No. 8 Adam Hall of Boise State, 4-3, to advance to the quarterfinals at 157.

    7:29 pm CT: No. 1 Jordan Burroughs of Nebraska looked like a man on a mission in pinning Colton Salazar of Purdue in the first period at 157.

    7:25 pm CT: After 13 minutes, and three overtimes, Penn State's Jake Stayer, seeded No. 10, came out victorious over No. 7. Nick Fanthorpe of Iowa State at 133.

    7:20 pm CT: The craziness continues as No. 2 Zach Tanelli of Wisconsin gets knocked off by Nick Nelson of Virginia at 141.

    7:12 pm CT: Defending NCAA champion J Jaggers of Ohio State survived a scare against Tyler Nauman of Pittsburgh at 141. Jaggers need overtime to come out victorious.

    7:06 pm CT: The second No. 1 goes down! Ryan Prater of Illinois pinned Kellen Russell of Michigan to advance to the quarterfinals at 141.

    7:03 pm CT: In a battle of returning All-Americans, Minnesota's Jayson Ness proved to be too much for Cornell's Mike Grey. The Gopher junior won 9-0.

    7:01 pm CT: No. 8 Lou Ruggirello of Hofstra pinned No. 9 Joe Baker of Navy at 133.

    6:55 pm CT: Arizona State's Anthony Robles jumped out to a 5-0 lead on No. 5 Charlie Falck and never looked back, scoring an 8-3 upset victory at 125 over the Hawkeye senior.

    6:47 pm CT: Zach Sanders was trailing 4-2 late in the third period against James Nicholson of Old Dominion, but picked up a takedown and added a riding-time point to win 5-4 at 125.

    6:47 pm CT: At 125, B.J. Futrell of Illinois took an early 4-1 lead against No. 1 Paul Donahoe of Edinboro. But Donahoe stormed back and came away with the 13-7 victory.
